Rhinoplasty
Procedure
Technically specific to address the complaint. Sketches are made to show you the result before you actually undergo surgery.
Results
To match the patient’s expectations whenever possible.
Indications
dorsal hump, wide nose, large tip and deviation are some of the commonest complaints.
Complications
Are procedure specific and could be either technical or aesthetic in nature.
Recovery
A splint is usually applied for 7 to 10 days. Bruising disappears usually after 7 to 10 days. Invisible tip swelling can last up to several months.
Anesthesia
Usually, general anesthesia is used. Sometimes, local anesthesia with sedation can be used.
- How long will I remain bruised?
- Can I wear glasses?
- Should I keep my head elevated?
It is very much technique dependent, usually 7 to 14 days.
You can wear them over the splint. Once that is removed, it is advisable to remove your glasses every hour to prevent them from making an indentation in the nose. Wear your lightest glasses if available. Certainly, you could use contact lenses as well.
Bending down or any position that places the head in a dependent posture could prolong nasal edema, and is best avoided.
